Upgrades to items are a common and essential way to boost the performance of many items in Path of Exile. They can be a great source of additional damage and more AD or even more attachments.

Rare-grade equipment can be superior to modernized Common or Magic gear due to their high demands.

Armor

Armor upgrades are a type of upgrade that can be used on weapons and armor items. They improve the performance of the item upgrading they are attached to. Armor upgrades can be found in the world of games and can be purchased from Blacksmiths at bonfires. They can also be salvaged using a specialist or higher salvage kits to recover upgrades from the items.

The level of an armor's or weapon's upgrade determines the amount of damage it will absorb. The ability to absorb damage of an item of armor will increase as it is upgraded to the maximum upgrade level. However, it's important keep in mind that this will raise its weight, requiring it to weigh more than it was before.

There are many different kinds of armor upgrades that are available in the game. Each has a different impact. Certain upgrades grant armor an additional number of health points, while others make it more powerful and lighter. The name of the armor upgrade will indicate the type of upgrade that an item will be given, as illustrated below.

Unlike other upgrade components, jewels are able to be swapped by a different identical jewel without damaging the original one. However it is only possible to replace one jewel in a piece of equipment once.

It is normal to use more jewels to enhance the appearance of. Jewels also enhance performance and create a surface harder than metal so that repeated friction from pivots do not damage them.

A Glyphmaster can provide glyphs that can enhance the look of your weapons and shields. These are a small perk and can be swapped out at any time but aren't guaranteed to drop as loot. The first trinkets a player is able to unlock is the cloak. It grants a small, but valuable boost to speed of movement and the ability to escape.
