The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests of floors with no carpet They are also adept at cleaning dog hair. They do have some flaws, however, that prevent them from being our first choice. One of them is that the Q5's navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate tight spaces very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.

However, it's a good choice, especially if you want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a bare-floored home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and can work while you're at work, or going to school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle however. If you're required to, the mopping pad can be replaced with an awe-inspiring one in a matter of just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant automatic vacuum and mop robot cleaner that can also mop floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean, and efficient in dealing with larger particles like pet hair. It also has a self-emptying dustbin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, though it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performing combination vacuum and mop uses advanced sensor technology to avoid obstacles and pet waste, and it also learns the layout of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. It has a battery lifespan that is comparable to other models.

If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can tell it to take off and extend its mop. This will help prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is ideal for getting under furniture that is low and along baseboards. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums this feature, which hasn't been seen in other robot vacuum/mop combos.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant circular design that looks like a regular Roomba than the competition's boxy units this mop and robot vacuum is one of the most attractive designs in our evaluations. The latest model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It comes with advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 in our testing thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, which include a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.

Like other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, offering an intuitive mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that it's a noisy unit which could be problematic if you run it in the morning prior to work or in the evening as you try to fall asleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, though it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are similarly capable and more attractive. If you're willing to put up with a little more noise and a little more cost this is a capable two-in-one that should delight most.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with many advanced features that will let you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take care of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multifunction dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, and cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its competitors with premium features. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and was sometimes confused with obstructions or power cords.

Its vacuum has a high suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to finish the job. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vac works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house depending on the amount of dirt they are.

If you own a larger home, you should consider selecting a model with a spot or zone cleaning mode. This allows you to instruct the robot on which part of your house needs to be cleaned by using the app or voice command. If you have a lot of furniture, a stair mode is also a good option. For busy families, a recharge function and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off can be very useful.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you might imagine from its price. It does a stellar job cleaning, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with one pad that has a reciprocating motion that does a better job cleaning than the other mop cleaners for robots we've tested. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, set up the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritise your dirtiest rooms to improve performance. The app comes with a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it is able to reach corners and under furniture more easily. It also has strong 8,000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for hair of pets. You can also organize a spot-cleaner which will thoroughly clean an area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble adorable eyes. It does a great job vacuuming, however it is more likely to be caught on low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums we've examined. It also has an app that's less intuitive, and a smaller base station that does not double as a bin for emptying.
