Exogenous ketones may help raise ketone levels, decrease appetite and increase athletic performance. Jordan Ponder, a dietician at Transform Health, says that this causes the body to break-down fat into substances called ketones (a process which takes place in the liver), using them for energy instead of glucose-the broken down version of carbohydrates the body normally uses for fuel. The diet was designed to transition his body to burning fat as its primary fuel source, rather than glucose.
