Modern electronic key fobs provide more functionality and are more convenient when compared to manual keys. However, they require batteries that eventually degrade over time and require replacement. If your Volvo key fob has begun to malfunction intermittently, it's an indication that the battery is depleted and will need replacing soon.

Fortunately, there are simple steps that you can follow to replace your Volvo key fob battery on your own. Find a clean area to work on. Then, you can lay out all the tools you require. Then, locate the battery's hatch and then open it with the flathead, a coin, or other similar tool. Then, carefully pull out the battery by lifting the side closest to the hook on the key-ring. Use rubber gloves to shield the electronic contact surfaces.

After the battery is removed, insert the new one in its socket. Make sure that the positive side of the battery is facing up, and that all clips are seated. Slide the cover toward the key-ring until it is loose and it falls off. Then, lift the cover to reveal the key blade hidden inside. This is a way to unlock your car from the driver's side door if the key fob battery is dead or missing.

How to Start Your Vehicle

Modern vehicles come with keyfobs which do more than just unlock and lock the doors. They also have other useful functions such as summoning and auto parking the vehicle. The latest Volvo XC60 is capable of remotely starting your engine via its key fob buttons. What exactly does it do?

First, find a clean, flat surface where you can lay out all of the necessary items for this project. Lay the fob on the work surface with the volvo spare key (here.) logo facing upwards. Use a flathead or coin, or similar tool to flip open the battery hatch. Be careful not to touch the electronic contact surfaces of the fob using your tools, as this may cause the fob's key to stop functioning properly.

Once the hatch has been opened, slide the battery in its socket. Make sure that the positive (+ side) is facing up. Once the clips are locked into place, replace battery cover, and then reassemble the fob.

When you press the unlock button just once the alarm will removed and the driver's doors will be unlocked. If you press it again it will unlock all the doors and tailgate. The unlock button can also be used to open the windows on a hot day or to let fresh air in before climbing behind the wheel. If you'd like to go further than that, the keyfob can be used to turn on the ERS system, which will start the climate control system of your vehicle. It will warm or cool the vehicle to desired temperature setting when the vehicle is parked.

How to Change the Battery

Changing the battery is fairly easy and requires a small screwdriver that is flat or a plastic pry bar tool. First find the small slot in which the backup or emergency metal ignition key used to reside. Use the blade of your screwdriver or pry bar tool into the slot and gently pry open the back of the fob for the key. Once the fob is opened you can locate the CR2032 3V battery and take it off. Replace the battery and snap back the fob.

Note: Older Volvos are powered by a different kind of battery one called the CR2025. CR2025 batteries have the thickness of 7/10ths one millimeter less than CR2032, so you'll need to be very careful when replacing your battery.

Your key fob has the transponder chip programmed to your Volvo. If you lose your keys in the event of a loss, you'll need to take it to a dealer to get it replaced, and your car reset. This process can take between 5 and 10 days and cost you a significant amount of money. You can save money by programming your own computer. You can find all the necessary information in your owner's guide or on the internet. Remove the logo and nonlogo covers and place your key fob on a clean surface. Push the grey button in the upper right corner of your fob. This will open the cover to reveal the CR 2032 3V battery.311159893_995841588058766_6213964028136182559_nlow.jpg
