How to Replace an Audi Etron Key G28 Engine Speed Sensor

skoda-logo.jpgIn this video, Charles the Humble Mechanic shows how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. The sensor is situated on the edge of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via an uncolored wire (T55/49) and then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.

The grey wire is situated at the edges of the transmission, directly above the flywheel ring. The sensor sends a signal via the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU utilizes this information to regulate fuel and boost. It also sends an indicator to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to connect the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is located so that it can start spark and injectors in the right way.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will show a P00160 code which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are out of sync and possibly indicating chain stretch or a jumped link on the upper timing chain. The code will not appear without the additional information provided by other sensors (G4 or G40).

Testing is a bit challenging as there are two different pins for the connector and they serve different purposes but the best method of testing it is by measuring resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read about 1000 ohms if the sensor is at full operation. If you're experiencing issues with this part, check for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, when i was accelerating to the fullest speed from highway paytoll, I experienced massive power loss like the engine is running out of gas or the injectors aren't firing anymore. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning and found that 3 were soaked with gasoline and the 4th was dry. I put tissue over each injector hole, and when i start the engine without sparks, the ones with gazoline jump right out. The 4th one stays shut. I tested the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55, 30/55 and 48/55. I got 0ohm. So i assume the problem is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset the PID but without success. The replacement car key audi can start when the G28 is unplugged and it runs perfectly when it is plugged in but it still is experiencing intermittent misfires at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for coolant (G62) shows the wrong temp value -49c, even if I unplug it. Also, i noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit is showing 2 bar when the actual pressure is 0.0 when I crank up the engine.

I don't know what to do. I think I've eliminated everything else. However, i'm afraid that i might have missed something. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump of the g28 receives signals from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter functions similarly to the G4 sender, and both operate on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. It is easy to find an extra in a wrecking shop or a parts store. Testing them is easy by putting your DMM in resistance mode and measure between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's side up) and 2 (2nd from the left on the black connector's side). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, ABY and ADU) engines are equipped with an ECU that has to know the speed and position of the crankshaft in order to make a decision about fuel injector timing etc. To do this, cost of audi key replacement it makes use of a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If either of these goes badly, you will see codes on the diagnostic scanner that can cause the engine to shut down.

The signs of a malfunctioning G28 sensor include an inaccurate rev counter for the gearbox, gears shifting quicker than normal, and/or a misfire when you're in gear. It is probable that your sensor is failing and requires to be replaced if you encounter any of these signs. They're cheap and easy to find, especially in the case of a Bosch model like ours. Alternately, the GM version of this part is also a good option.

5. Tachometer

A failing engine speed sensor could be the cause of many issues in your vehicle. It's an essential component of the transmission of your audi key fob replacement because it relays information to the ECU on how fast or slow the engine is turning. If the sensor fails, it will affect the performance of the transmission as well as the other car's components.

The G5 engine sensor is located at the outskirts of transmission, above the flywheel ring. It sends signals via an uncolored wire to the ECU pin T55/49. The ECU utilizes this signal to regulate the flow of fuel and boost and also to timigrate. It also sends it to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster. You can check for sensor failure by checking continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. Additionally, you can verify continuity between pin T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79]), and between pin T6a/1 as well as pin T26a/12. You should see approximately 1000 ohms of resistance between those points. This is a standard part that is found across the audi Q7 replacement key 80, 100, 200, Audi Spare Key Replacement UrS and RS2 range from 1985 MC to the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU. Good parts could be found in wrecking yards.
