Devices utilizing RS485 can communicate with central control systems using communication protocols such as Modbus and ASCII. RS-485 is used as the physical layer underlying many standard and proprietary automation protocols used to implement industrial control systems, including the most common versions of Modbus and Profibus. All in all, RS485 really allowed full automation possible with its ability to connect so many devices at once. The magnetic fields are allowed to pass, but do no harm. We also see that the maximum allowed voltage levels for all interfaces are in the same range, but that the signal level is lower for the faster interfaces. Several volts difference in the ground level of the RS485 transmitter and receiver does not cause any problems. Without termination resistors, signal reflections off the unterminated end of the cable can cause data corruption. Access control systems: Rs485 cables are mainly used to connect and transmit data between access control devices such as security gates, RFID cards, or time attendance machines and the control center. Stable connections play a crucial role in managing and controlling access to secure areas, optimizing system performance. Insulation/separator layer: This layer plays a role in insulation and enhances the durability and lifespan of the cable. This utilization of a differential signal transmission mode effectively mitigates interference and enhances overall communication reliability. The two-wire half-duplex system enables bidirectional data transmission between two devices, but not simultaneously. B- lines, representing a two-wire half-duplex configuration, which is the most commonly used wiring method in RS485. While four-wire full-duplex exists, it is less prevalent in current applications, with the two-wire half-duplex configuration being the predominant wiring method in use today. It offers two primary wiring methods: two-wire half-duplex and four-wire full-duplex. It requires minimal wiring and can share the wiring among several seats, reducing weight. RS-485 is also used in building automation as the simple bus wiring and long cable length is ideal for joining remote devices.



Although total cable length maybe shorter in a star configuration, adequate termination is not possible anymore and signal quality may degrade significantly. What is rs485 cable?
