Remotes

Most Seat drivers keep a spare remote in the house or garage, but when they lose it getting replacement keys from a dealer is expensive and time consuming. This is because most dealers will programme the key using the car's computer which will need to be reset. However, many people buy second-hand keys off the internet that are not programmed to their car. This can be a much cheaper alternative to going to the dealer. But, these key will not start the car because they will not have a transponder chip inside them. You can see the chip (yellow) in this picture below, it is a Dual Inline Package or DIP 18 pin chip. There are also a diode, transistor and resonator, all these parts make up the key's circuit.

Immobilisers

Since car immobilisers became popular in the last decade, car thefts began to fall, but thieves are smart and always trying to find ways to get around security systems. The early immobilisers could be removed by using a scanner to locate the code on the chip and then copying it onto the blank key. But the technology has advanced and thieves have had to devise new tricks.

Fortunately the majority of the immobilisers we supply and fit are Thatcham Cat 2 approved. This means that they've been tested and approved by the Thatcham Research organisation. This not-for-profit organization is the system of grading and approval for the automotive aftermarket alarm and security devices, including car immobilisers.

If the Thatcham approved immobiliser system is activated it will send a coded message to the Engine Management System of the vehicle, preventing the engine from running until the correct key is available. If the car is "hot-wired" following entry and it stops the engine after 30 seconds and prevent it from being able to start.

As with any computer that is used, the immobiliser could develop issues. Sometimes the internal battery or key fob might require replacement. It is best to hire an expert do the work to make sure everything is installed correctly and operates.

Transponders

Transponders send an identifying signal back when it is interrogated. It identifies the aircraft to air traffic control when it is on a radar system. It also helps maintain the separation between aircrafts. The information that is transmitted by the transponder differs based on the type of system being used.

Transponders are also present in satellites and spacecraft to communicate with Earth systems like cell phone networks or other networks for communication. They receive signals at a range frequencies and then retransmit those signals on a different spectrum like repeaters in terrestrial cell phone networks work.

Often sophisticated transponders with sophisticated technology can be found on aircraft. They are used to monitor the status of flight and provide navigation information including the aircraft's location, speed, altitude, and the route. Air traffic controllers use data from these transponders in order to control flight routes and ensure safety.

A lot of personal keys have a transponder chip in addition to transponders for aircraft. These chips are inactive and do not require batteries. This allows the ECU to read the transponder signal when it is placed in the ignition lock.

The flight deck of most aircrafts has a switch that pilots can use to turn their transponders off or off. They can also select an "ident" mode that allows the transponder's unique squawk number and help it stand out on an air traffic control screens.jaguar-logo.png
