Kids Beds Bunk

Bunk beds can add drama and adventure to a child's space. Ms. Keenan adds a shelf to store books or a reading lamp in every sleeping nook to make bunk beds more appealing to children.

Many of our kids beds bunks can be converted to two twin beds in one, perfect if you plan to let your children move to their own bedrooms at some point. Pick from finishes like white, brushed gray and rich walnut.

Stairs or Ladders

When choosing kids beds bunk you can choose to choose between ladders or stairs. Ladders can be easily installed and are less expensive. They also offer an easy way to get into the top bunk bed. They are more secure than stairs, since they provide a greater surface for children to walk on and include a handrail that is integrated. Ladders also usually have grooves in the steps which help prevent slippage when climbing up or down the bed.

However, if you prefer the look and design of stairs, they can be a more elegant option to your bunk bed. Staircases are also suitable for rooms that are tight on space, as they don't extend into the room as ladders do. They are often constructed of metal or wood and can match a variety of bedroom styles. Some staircases come with storage drawers that are a great way to increase the space of a bunk bed.

Another thing to take into consideration when deciding between stairs or a ladder is the age of your child. While it is recommended no one sleep on the top bunk under the age of 6, older children who are comfortable with vertical climbing might be better off using stairs rather than a ladder. If you are planning to use your bunk bed for guests, such as younger children or adults who have limited mobility, it's best to use stairs.

A straight staircase that runs along the side of the bed requires 95" of space each side. If you don't have this much space, you can opt for a u-shaped stairs that doesn't need as much space but still offers a secure and safe method of getting to the top bunk. Some beds come with the option of detaching the stairs when not in use, which further reduces their footprint and makes them more suitable for multipurpose rooms. There are also staircases that connect to the end of the bed and eliminate the need for a separate handrail and makes it easier for children to climb up and down.

Guard Rails

Guard rails let children climb into and out of their beds without assistance, giving them a sense of independence and security. However, they must be set properly, ensuring that there aren't any gaps or sagging occurs between the rails that guard the bed frame. If you choose to use guard rails, follow the manufacturer's instructions and check them on a regular basis for any holes or looseness which could cause the entrapment.

Keep bunk beds out of electrical appliances and other items that could be projectiles while your children are playing or sleeping. Make sure you place bunks away from windows, which could be a danger to fall when children climb up to the top of the bed.

One safety feature you might want to consider is a night light for the ladder; it can help to illuminate the ladder's path up and down in case children awake at night to go to the bathroom or are woken during a storm, and need to get out of their rooms safely.

Another great safety feature for bunks is a safety net which can be placed on the top of the bunk to prevent children from falling over when they're asleep or playing. This is a great idea especially for older children, who are more likely to sleep on the top bunk.

The guardrails must be secured to the bunk beds and cannot be removed without tools. The openings in the guardrails that are above the mattress foundation must not be greater than 3.5 inches to avoid entrapment and strangulation. To test this, insert the wedge block shown in Figure 1 into each of the openings on the lower edge of the uppermost guardrail member and above the underside of the mattress foundation. Apply 33 lbf (147 N) in a direction that is perpendicular to the plane of the large edge of the block for one minute.

It's a good idea to inform your children to not hang any items on the guardrail or ladder like clothing, belts, and sporting equipment. Instead, you should use a clothes rack to prevent the objects from creating a strangulation hazard for your child. Be sure that not more than one child can sleep on the top bunk. This could lead to a dangerous imbalance and falls.

Mattresses

When choosing a mattress to use for bunk beds, consider the size of your child and their age. A bunk mattress will last for at least eight years, or until siblings do not share a bedroom, so you'll want to select a mattress designed to grow with your child while still providing adequate support as they grow older.

There are a myriad of options for bunk mattress sizes. They are usually full or twin size. If your children suffer from allergies or asthma choose a hypoallergenic mattress with a dust mite barrier as well as a cover that wicks moisture. Mattresses with an antimicrobial coating will shield the foam against harmful bacteria and germs.

Another important consideration is the feel of your mattress. Children are generally heavier than adults and require an appropriate mattress that is firm, but also comfortable. Many latex and hybrid mattresses come with one side that is firm and the other soft side to meet children's needs.

Memory foam mattresses are great for kids, but we don't recommend them due to their tendency not to cool properly and could be hard on the spines of small children. Consider a hybrid or latex mattress instead, which offer strong support with cooling infusions that will ensure your child or guest is resting cool and comfortable.

A mattress with a low profile is typically the best option for kids bunk beds. These mattresses are designed to be smaller than normal mattresses, and maximize the height of the safety rails on the top bunk. They minimize "filler" material to provide premium quality with a slim design.

If your child wants to try a mattress more hefty than a regular bed, consider an hybrid or innerspring mattress with comfort layers on the top that can be removed or replaced as the child grows. These models can provide an idea of the longevity of the mattress as your child grows. You can also add an extra bed skirt or mattress pad to prevent it from sliding. Some mattresses have side rails or a lip built-in to prevent this.

Stores

Bunk beds are an excellent option to make space in shared rooms for children. They also can be a cheaper alternative to purchasing two separate, full-sized single beds. Many bunks also provide the option of a trundle bed which can be hidden under the bunk that is not in use.

To maximize space and storage in a room with bunk beds, you should consider installing a mix kids bedroom furniture set that includes desks, dressers or bookcases. This will allow you to keep all your child's clothing, toys and personal items in one location instead of cramming everything into chests or closets that are overstuffed. These sets of bedroom furniture can be found at a variety of retailers. They are safe to use and meet federal standards.

The stacking bunks provide an ideal playground for children, as children can transform the spaces below into secret places to play or cozy areas. Designer Elizabeth Georgantas stacked six bunks to create the ultimate children space. It can be used as a place to sleep, play or even for twirling superhero capes. The room is decorated with bubble walls covered with Chasing Paper and a ceiling painted in Benjamin Moore Blue Jean to create the ultimate escape.

If you are unable to build a staircase to your bunk beds then a ladder is a simple alternative. They are constructed with a single socket Flange, Single Socket, and 90 Degree Side Outlet Fittings. They can be easily adjusted to increase or decrease the distance between the ladder rungs. The ladder rungs are also placed flush with the ground, instead of above to facilitate climbing.

Another way to maximize space in a room with bunk beds is to install loft kids beds which can be lowered to just above the floor. This allows you to slide desks, dressers, or toy chests under the beds that are elevated. This is an excellent way to maximize the space in smaller bedrooms or in large family homes where beds have to be sufficient for multiple people to sleep.oyt-double-mattress-double-memory-foam-mattress-breathable-mattress-medium-firm-with-soft-fabric-fire-resistant-barrier-skin-friendly-durable-for-double-bed-135x190x20cm-4ft6-double-2798.jpg
