There is currently a nationwide shortage of medications to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing problems and increased global demand.

Our service can provide private ADHD testing as an alternative to waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our assessment fees include the cost of one prescription.

Titration

A highly experienced consultant psychiatrist will conduct a thorough evaluation of your ADHD. This includes medical history and an assessment using the standard adhd titration private rating scales and questionnaires.

After your evaluation, you will be advised whether medication may be beneficial in your case. This will be discussed during your follow-up appointment (which could be in person, via video link or by phone). Your doctor will explain what medication options are available and, if you decide to start on medication we will offer to titrate the dose to optimise the balance of benefits and side effects for you.

This process could take several weeks and it involves gradually altering your child's medication until the proper balance has been achieved. It is not uncommon to to titrate up to three different medications before you find the one that best fits your child's ADHD. It is important that parents are involved in the titration and be aware of their child's behavior so they can inform the doctor whether the medication is helping or causing adverse effects.

If you decide to go back to NHS treatment you will receive an individual prescription for your medication. You will be required to pay at the pharmacy. This is not included in the consultation cost. You will be required to attend six monthly appointments to monitor your medication - this includes blood pressure and pulse readings. Annual reviews are also required.

Follow-up appointments

After the evaluation is completed after the assessment is completed, you can make follow-up appointments with the psychiatrist. Typically, the appointment will take place via a zoom video call but in certain circumstances it might be possible to schedule an audio-only consultation (again at an additional cost).

At this point, we will discuss any treatment options and decide on a custom-made ADHD medication titration plan. This will include a review and discussion of your dosage of medication, as well as any side effects you might be experiencing. The titration sessions cost PS150 for face-to-face sessions, and PS60 via telephone or video consultation. The cost of medication is additional and are paid directly to the pharmacy.

The psychiatrist will ask questions regarding your family history, the effects of your ADHD symptoms on your life, and any mental health issues you might be suffering from. This is because ADHD is a genetic disorder and it is essential to look into any family history that could suggest that you are at risk of developing the disorder.

During this examination, it is essential that you are truthful and honest with your doctor in the sense that they will be using the information you provide to determine if you have the diagnostic criteria for ADHD. This is a crucial step in the process, as failing to do so could result in an incorrect diagnosis and therefore inappropriate prescribing of medication.

If you've decided that you'd like to be treated for your ADHD We will set up a follow-up appointment with one of our psychiatrists who specialise in this field. This can be scheduled at the time of your diagnosis if you are keen to begin treatment right away or within two weeks if prefer to take time to consider the implications of your diagnosis and the options available to you.

If you are unsure of what your preference is it is recommended that you speak to your GP prior to booking your private assessment as some providers have different policies about whether they require an GP referral letter or not. Check if your GP accepts a Shared Care Agreement, which means you will be referred to them when you leave the clinic for prescriptions for medication.

Medication

For many people who want an individual diagnosis of ADHD treatment is a crucial aspect of their journey. It can be difficult to get an appointment with a psychiatrist on the NHS. NHS waiting lists are notoriously long, and GPs can be reluctant to refer patients on to specialist services.

Inquiring your GP to refer you to Right to Choose is one way to avoid this (see psychiatry - UK and ADHD 360). You can select a provider who offers an assessment on your own and titration adhd medications. This can cut down on wait time by a significant amount and is more convenient if you're working and have a full schedule.

Once you have been recommended by this method your chosen doctor will assess you and decide whether or not you need to be titrated on medication. You will need to complete forms that differ by provider, but the most common ones are self-reporting questions and medical histories that go to your childhood and into adulthood. These forms will allow your doctor to determine if there are any reasons that suggest that you shouldn't be taking ADHD medication, when they've been prescribed.

If you are titrated on medication, it is likely to consist of non-stimulant and stimulant medications. The combination will be carefully tested and monitored to determine the most effective combination for you, taking into account any current conditions you suffer from. The titration process can be long and may require multiple appointments before you are stable.

The frequency of your follow-up appointments will be contingent on the type and amount of medication you're taking. They can be monthly or quarterly. This will include your physician making sure that you are on the right medication, recording any side effects you have had and making any necessary adjustments to ensure you are on a dose that is safe. You are required to attend an annual review and a routine health exam that includes blood pressure, pulse, and weight measurements.

For some it could be because they are content with their medication and don't require a further discussion about their titration. If you're looking to discuss your titration or treatment plan further it is possible that you will be referred back to the private adhd medication titration clinic that performed your initial evaluation. In this case the titration is included in the consultation cost. The medication will then be administered via an individual prescription. This could cost more than prescriptions from the NHS because the pharmacy will charge you for the medication.
