Kia-Motors-New-2021.pngHow to Replace an audi key programming G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video Charles the Humble Mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor is located on the edge of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU through the grey wire T55/49 and then to the tachometer on the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

It is located on the outside of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends signals to ECU pin T55/49 through a grey wire. The ECU then uses this information to control the flow of fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an indication to the G5 Tachometer within the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to link with the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu must be aware when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is located so that it can activate spark and injectors according to the situation.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will display an error code P00160 which indicates that the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are out of sync, possibly indicating the chain stretching or a jump link on the upper timing chain. The code won't appear without the additional information provided by other sensors (G4 or G40).

It is a little tricky to test because there are various connector pins, and each one has different functions. The best method for doing this is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. It should read approximately 1000 ohms if the sensor is in full operation. If you're having issues with this component, look for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, when i was accelerating to the fullest speed from highway paytoll, i experienced an abrupt drop in power like the engine is running out of gas or the injectors are not firing anymore. In the morning, i removed the spark plugs, three were soaked with gazoline and the 4th one was dry. I placed a tissue over each injector audi Key fob replacement Cost hole and when i start the engine with no sparks, the 3 with gazoline jump right out. The fourth one remains closed. I tested the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I found zero ohm. I assume that the problem is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset the PID but with no luck. The car can start if the G28 is disconnected and it runs perfectly when it is connected however it has intermittent misfire issues at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even when it is unplugged, shows temperatures of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar but the actual pressure is 0.

I'm not certain what to do, as i feel i have pretty much ruled out everything else. I'm concerned that i may have missed something. If anyone has suggestions, please let me know! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump of the g28 gets a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is similar to the G4 sender, and both operate on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily find the spare in a salvage shop or parts store. It is simple to test them - just switch your DMM into resistance mode and measure the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump on the connector's edge facing up). They should be infinite ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU of our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY) engines must be aware of the position and speed of the crankshaft to determine timing of fuel injectors, etc. It utilizes a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to achieve this. If you are experiencing issues with either one of these, the diagnostic scanner will display the codes that could trigger an engine shutdown.

A failing G28 sensor could cause an inaccurate gearbox speed counter or a gearbox that shifts faster than normal, or a misfire while in gear. If you have any of these issues it is likely that your sensor is deteriorating and should be replaced. The good news is that they are quite affordable and easy to find, Replacement key for audi a3 (www.longisland.com) especially in the case of a Bosch sensor, like ours. Alternately, the GM version of this unit is also a great option.

5. Tachometer

A faulty engine speed sensor could be a cause for a slew of problems in your car. It's a vital component of your audi tt Key fob not working's transmission, since it relays information to the ECU about how the car's crankshaft is rotating. This sensor can cause the transmission to fail and other components of the car to be affected.

Subaru-logo.pngThe G5 engine speed sensor is located on the outside of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49, via a grey wire. The ECU uses this signal to regulate the flow of fuel and boost and also timig. It also transmits it to the G5 Tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can test for sensor failure by checking continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. Also, you can verify continuity between pin T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79trace [79]), and between pin T6a/1 as well as pin T26a/12. You should see around 1000 ohms of resistance between those points. This is a typical part across the audi spare key replacement 80 100, 200, audikey UrS and RS2 range from 1985 MC through the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU. Good parts could be found in wrecking yards.
