WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give you boost in certain stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. A random substat is also boosted alongside each upgrade.

The more modernized gear generally has a higher trade value as long as it meets low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or a very high stat variation (like eth titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as important for those with higher variance due to the need to roll the perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader enables players to upgrade gear to a higher item level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. However, the item Level Upgrade used to upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enhancements.

You can upgrade your equipment at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended to visit the upgrader every couple of weeks to keep your equipment up-to-date.

The cost of upgrades will vary based on the current item level of the gear being upgraded, but will always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to the level of ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. Buying a similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are useful items which can be used to improve the quality of weapons and tools, armor and other accessories. They are purchased by players through NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for different currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any weapon, tool, or armor. The button will show the item's next level of upgrade, in the event that there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading is based on the slot of the item and the current Best item upgrader level as well as the level of the weapon, which is more than gloves or bracers for example. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with some upgrades offering discounts to reduce the cost of Flightstones or the crests used. After an item has been upgraded to a certain degree, it can be downgraded and sold to the upgrader for a lower price.

Many locations offer item upgraders which include the main island and a few outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount and a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The upgrade discount increases as more items are upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete certain achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at the start, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. Instead, the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades must be acquired through various methods, which is both an improvement as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3 the upgrade system has been modified a bit, and several new features added. Once an upgrade has been completed to a certain level of item for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level will cost less. This is regardless of whether the items are from an entirely different set of equipment.

The amount of Valorstones required for upgrades is reduced, and the discount is account-wide. Similarly, the amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players reach certain achievement milestones.

Crests

Players have a number of options when it comes to upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are a currency that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specific and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are a crucial component of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

The first thing to be aware of is that crests can only be spent on equipment of a particular rank, and each rank has its own requirements for upgrading. The simplest and simplest upgrade route costs 15 crests while the most complicated can require as much as 20 crests, based on the kind of gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through finishing content at the appropriate level, whether that means walking around and doing outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, dungeons or raids of all difficulty for items of higher tier, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons to obtain endgame gear. Crests can be exchanged at an upgrader NPC like Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken, for the appropriate upgrade paths and steps.

The new currency system isn't complicated to use, however it brings some changes to the upgrade items process. For instance, once an item reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This allows players to upgrade their gear to the highest possible level on all their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another important modification is that crests have one use and it's crucial to use them properly. For instance, it's Best item upgrader to utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests on the top equipment available, and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you're planning on making. This is particularly true for items like trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character which can only be eligible to benefit from the account-wide discount if all of the slots are filled with high-quality equipment.
