World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
The upgrade of an item can be used to increase the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type it can boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity and boost additional stats.
Each item upgrader mod has a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a set amount.
Item Level
The value of an item's stats base increases when it is upgraded. The value is the sum of all of its leveled up advantages (attack, magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be expensive depending on the person you hire and what you do. This is due to how many perks need to be replaced to allow the item to get upgraded.
Item level is a popular measurement of power and can be found on all tooltips of items. It also serves to limit the amount of PvP gear players are able to wear since PvP is not available at a lower level. The average item level can be found in the character sheet.
When deciding whether to purchase or sell equipment players can evaluate the levels of the item. It's a good indicator of an item's quality and the amount of damage it will be capable of causing. The level of an item can be used to evaluate items when looking at the inventory of a vendor.
The item level can be seen by pressing the ALT key on a PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will show the item's full description, including the ilvl. It can also be found by hovering over an item level upgrade with the mouse cursor, and then entering /itemlevel into chat.
There are several theories about the method by which the level of an item is calculated. One theory is that the level is a number that comes from a formula which calculates how much an item's stats are worth. It takes into consideration the fact that different perks have different worth and that sockets have gems that increase the value of the item overall. This process can result in a calculated value for the item's level, which is typically close to Blizzard's real item level.
This isn't the only thing that affects the level of an item. The location of where the item was dropped can alter its stats. For example it can increase the item's haste, or crit rating. Items dropped in higher-level instances will have higher ilvl.
Item Stats
Item stats are a big part of what determines the value of an item for players. The game uses a variety of them in different ways to encourage players to play with multiple weapons, and to prevent one weapon from being "the Best item upgrade." The stat mods of weapons boost base stats. These stat mods are then enhanced by a player's skill.
Upgrades to an item can boost its stats. The upgrade costs are determined by the rarity of the item. A grey or white item, for example, will only be upgraded one time and items with rare tiers can be upgraded multiple times at higher costs.
Another method of altering the stats on an item is to use affixes. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player and are available in all sizes and shapes. The affixes could provide the item additional damage, or give a specific capability to the item (such as reviving the dead or cutting down the duration of cooldowns) or make the item unique by giving a special name to the item.
At present, all affixes can be changed by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button with circles arrows. It will cost a set amount in gold and other items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges, just like the other methods of rerolling.
Players can upgrade an item to a specific stat, or reroll affixes. The stat ranges are determined by the item's level. However, all items will have at least one stat in that range unless they are an item that is unique or an item that has a God Roll from a raid boss.
This is another thing that could be changed by introducing an option to upgrade the equipment without having to reroll the affixes or choosing which stats to boost. But as with base equipment, this would need to be done on a per-item basis and the item compare interface will not show all the stats that could be gained or lost at once.
Item Luck
The Luck stat for a player adds up to increase the likelihood of finding items, the properties spawned on loot drops and the intensity of these properties. However, it doesn't directly affect damage or ability to upgrade items. It gives players the possibility to obtain better equipment earlier in the game and is therefore more useful in early game runs than later ones because most players value higher weapon scaling and defenses over raw damage gains.
Luck can also boost the chance of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chance of upgrading, which increase with each new level of item. It is also possible to be increased with the use of anti-materials, such as the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.
The shields, armor and weapons have a default Luck value of 40. These items can be enhanced by golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to grant an additional +40 Luck or to boost the existing Luck of an item up to 140.
Certain items, like the weapon that is infused with hollow, can also be equipped to increase the damage of any skill that is able to deal damage by five percent. These items can be purchased in the shop or created using the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Not all upgrades work. However, there are some cash shop items which allow players to increase their chance of success or stop them from losing an item if the upgrade fails.
The success rate of an upgrade is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the likelihood of successful upgrading an item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special Materials. The chance of success can only be increased so high, and the probability that the upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%..
The performance of an can be affected by the luck of the item. Every item has an average success rate of 25 percent and each item with Luck increases the chance of success by 5%.
The upgrade item overlays for items are rendered above the items in the inventory. This may cause obscurity to enchantment effects or other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
