Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our floor tests that test for bare floors, and they're particularly adept in removing pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws, however, that prevent them from being our top option. For one, the Q5's navigation doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology and is therefore prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate tight spaces very well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.

It's still a good value, especially if your home or office has a lot of unfinished floors and you want to save some money. It's also very quiet and can be used when you're at work or at school. The only thing it lacks that you don't get in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's among our most attractive robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to the combination of high-tech sensors including a structured light system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can fully self-refill and empty its base station and boasts an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

As with other iRobot models as well, the X40 is easy to use, offering a simple mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only real drawback is that it's loud, which can be problematic if you run it in the morning before work, or at night when you try to sleep.

It's also quite expensive, although it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are similarly capable and more attractive. If you're willing to live some more volume and a little more cost, this is a very efficient two-in-one device that should delight most.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot vacuum and mop. It has a range of features that are advanced and will help you forget your chores. Like Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning robot mop and vacuum machine that takes the care of vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot uses a combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and spot obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its top rivals. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time hazard detection however, it wasn't foolproof in our testing and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to do the job. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vac works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house according to how dirty they are.

If you have a larger home, you should consider selecting a model with a spot or zone cleaning mode. This allows you to instruct the robot on which part of your house needs to be cleaned with the help of an app or voice control. A stairway mode is beneficial if you have large furniture. Finally, a recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuum pick up right where it left off is great for busy families.

It also mops with only one pad and a reciprocating motion that cleans better that most mop cleaners for robots that we've examined. It's also self-sufficient with a full-featured app and a self emptying base that is washable.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through an initial mapping session that collects data about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules, or to set up an automatic vacuum cleaner spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize your dirtiest areas to improve performance. The app also grants access to many options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It can also reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for hair of pets. And you can set up a spot clean that thoroughly cleans a particular area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It is capable of vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to getting caught on low thresholds and is a bit louder than the other top robot vacuums we've tested. It also has a less intuitive app and a small base station that doesn't double as an emptying bin.
