World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Upgrades to an item are a way to boost the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade it could boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity and boost additional stats.
The process of upgrading equipment in The War Within requires a specified number of Flightstones and Crests and each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a specified amount.
Item Level
The value of an item's stats base increases when it is upgraded. This value is the total of all the upgraded perks (attack, magic attack and defense). Upgrades to items can be costly, depending on the upgrader and the type of upgrade you choose to make. This is due to the number of perks that have to be changed in order to upgrade an item.
It is also used as a gating requirement when waiting for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It can also be used as a gating requirement while waiting to queue for dungeons and raids and scenarios, and to limit the amount of PvP gear a player can wear (since PvP is limited to the lower levels). The average level of an item can be found on the character sheet.
When deciding to purchase or sell equipment players can look at the level of an item. It's an excellent indicator of the quality of an item and the amount of damage it's able to deal. The level of an item level upgrade can be used to compare items when evaluating the inventory of a vendor.
The level of the item can be seen by pressing the ALT key on your PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will display the item's full description, including the ilvl. It is also accessible by hovering over an item using the mouse cursor, and then typing /itemlevel into chat.
There are several theories about how the calculation of the item's level is done. One theory suggests that the level of an item is calculated by a formula that calculates the value of the stats of an item really are. It considers that different perks are valued differently, and that gems in the sockets increase the value of the item. This can result in a calculated value for the item's ilvl which is typically close to Blizzard's actual level of the item.
This is not the only thing that affects the level of an item. The degree of the area in which the item was dropped may change its stats. For instance, it could add a level to the item's haste or crit rating. This means that items that drop at higher levels will have higher ilvl than those from lower-level instances.
Item Stats
The stats of an item are a major part of what makes or breaks an item for players. The game makes use of a lot of them in different ways to encourage players to use multiple weapons, and to prevent one weapon from being "the best." The stat mods of a weapon boost the base stats. These stat mods are then boosted by the player's level.
The upgrades to an item can increase its stats. The upgrade costs are determined by the rarity of the item. For instance, a grey or white item will only be upgraded once, while an item with the rare tiers can be upgraded many times at higher prices.
Affixes can also be used to change an item's stats. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player and come in a variety of shapes and sizes. The affixes can do things like give the item extra damage, or add a unique ability to the item (such as reviving the dead or decreasing the cooldowns), or make the item unique by putting an additional name to the item.
Presently, all affixes are able to be changed by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button with the arrows that circle. This will cost a specific amount in gold and items. These can be used as upgrade gauges similar to other methods of rerolling.
In addition to Rerolling affixes and rerolls, players can select which stats to keep on an item level upgrade when it is upgraded. The possible stat ranges of an item are based on the level of the item upgrading, but all items are guaranteed to have at least one stat within the range, unless it is an exclusive item or the result of a God roll from a raid boss.
This is another thing that could be altered by adding the option to upgrade the equipment without rerolling the affixes or deciding which stats to enhance. Similar to the base equipment, it must be done per item and the interface for item comparison would not display all the possible stats at once.
Item Luck
The Luck stat for a player adds up to increase the likelihood of finding items, the properties spawned on loot drops and the strength of the properties. However, it does not directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It simply gives players the chance to acquire better equipment earlier in the game and is thus more useful in the early game than in later ones, as most players prioritize higher weapon scaling and defenses over the raw damage gain.
In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the chances of success when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade probability that increases with each level of the item and can be further increased through the use of an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.
Weapons, shields, and armor can be made or spawn using the Luck property, with the default value of 40. These items can be enhanced with golden ingots, or spined leather (depending on their material type) for a further +40 luck or to increase the luck of the item to 140.
Certain items, like the Hollow-infused weapon can also be crafted to increase the damage of any skill that causes damage by 5%. These items can be bought in the shop, or they can be made using the correct ingredients.
Item Failure
Upgrades to items can be a costly process and not all upgrades will be successful. Cash shop items can be used to increase the success rate of an upgrade, or to protect players from losing their item in the event that it does not work.
When you upgrade an item the success rate is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of successfully upgrading that item, and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations on how much the success rates can be improved and the probability of an upgrade failing cannot exceed 100%..
The luck of an item can influence the effectiveness of an upgrade. Every item has an overall success rate of 25 percent and every item with Luck increases this chance by 5percent.
Note that item upgrades are rendered above the items in the inventory therefore enchantment glints and other effects can be masked by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
